The Grand Duke of Luxembourg cuts his birthday cake

As far as birthday cakes go, it was pretty spectacular. But then again, it wasn't just any birthday celebration.

The majority of the Luxembourg royal family were gathered around as Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg (far right) cut into the cake. It had been specially made to celebrate his 90th birthday, which fell on January 5.

In honour of the duke's milestone year, the royals attended a concert at the Philharmonie in Luxembourg City after posing for photos at the Palais Grand Ducal.

There they listened to a specially commissioned piece of orchestral music, as well as symphonies by Beethoven and Mozart.

Those in attendance included King Albert and Queen Paola of Belgium and Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.
